Project Review

Cameroon faces increasing unemployment, especially among youth (35%) and women. Despite abundant freshwater resources (rivers, lakes, reservoirs), fish demand far exceeds domestic supply, with imports covering up to 60% of consumption. The government prioritizes aquaculture development, but access to finance, skills, and markets remains limited.
Sustainable pisciculture presents a high-potential solution to poverty, food insecurity, and youth unemployment in Cameroon

The Objective of the BLUE HOPE RESOURCES (BHR) Project is to promote inclusive and sustainable pisciculture-based social entrepreneurship for improved livelihoods, food security, and economic development in Cameroon.
With a strategy of Strengthening a Pisciculture Vision through Strategic Collaboration, the project will adopt an inclusive and sustainable Pisciculture Entrepreneurship System; one that ensures every member benefits meaningfully. This will be achieved by organizing efforts into two mutually supportive consortiums; A Production Consortium (Comprising small-scale fish farmers focused on high-quality fish production) and a Value-Addition & Services Consortium (made up of members involved in processing, packaging, marketing, and fish farming resources).
This symbiotic structure is designed to create a win-win relationship for all. The Value-Addition group will provide a ready market and fish farming resources at favourable conditions to the Production group, ensuring smooth operations, shared growth, and mutual profitability, while maximizing the entrepreneurial potential of each member.

This BHR project offers a sustainable pathway to livelihoods and economic resilience through an innovative, community-driven pisciculture entrepreneurship model. With proper funding and partnerships, it can serve as a blueprint for national scale-up and replication across Africa.
